Facebook (FB) has severed ties with Microsoft’s (MSFT) Bing on its social media website.

facebook-bing-fb-msftFacebook confirmed that it decided to remove Bing search results from its website on Friday. Users of the search feature on the website were previously able to access links to other websites via Bing. With the change, all searches are now handled by the company’s own engine and don’t include outbound links, reports Reuters.

Facebook has said that it will continue to work with Microsoft in other areas. The social media websites want to make its search engine better and hopes to reach point where it becomes the go-to engine on the web for searches, Reuters notes.

“We think FB’s renewed efforts in Search could boost engagement near-term and ultimately boost monetization for FB,” Arvind Bhatia, an analyst for Sterne Agee, told Inside Facebook. “In the long run, we would not be surprised if FB developed its own search engine to crawl the wider web.”
