Facebook (FB) is expanding its security with the launch of a new free anti-malware scanner.

Facebook has teamed up with security company ESET to add its technology to the website’s free anti-malware scanner. The addition of ESET to the social media platform’s security system means that it’s more likely that malicious links and other problems will be caught.
ESET isn’t the first to be a part of Facebook’s free anti-malware scanner. Earlier this year, it was announced that F-Secure and Trend Micro would be teaming up with the social media company to provide anti-malware protection. These two companies then built free versions of their software that was incorporated into the website.
Here’s what Chetan Gowda, a Facebook Software Engineer on the company’s Site Integrity team, had to say about the free anti-malware scanner:
“Here’s how it works: if the device you’re using to access our services is behaving suspiciously and shows signs of a possible malware infection, a message will appear offering you an anti-malware scan for your device. You can run the scan, see the scan results, and disable the software all without logging out of Facebook—making it seamless and easy to clean up an infected device.”
