The security flaw was fixed after it was revealed that a hacking tool called iDict could exploit it to break into accounts. The tool was released on New Year’s Day and on Jan. 2 the creator of it announced that it no longer worked for breaking into iCloud accounts, reports Business Insider.

Apple’s iCloud service was hackable by iDict through a brute force method. The tool would run through a list of frequently used passwords until it found the right one to access the account. The tool was even able to work its way past two-step authentication, which was added after the nude celebrity photo leak in 2014, Business Insider notes.

“This bug is painfully obvious and was only a matter of time before it was privately used for malicious or nefarious activities,” Pr0x13, the creator of iDict, told Bidness ETC. “I publicly disclosed it so Apple will patch it.”
