The next Supermoon will occur on Feb. 18 and is also a Black Moon.
A Supermoon occurs when a New Moon appears during it’s closest time near Earth. This upcoming one will mark the third one this winter and another is still coming. There are typically only three Supermoons a season, reports Weather.com.
To be considered a Black Moon, a New Moon has to meet one of three conditions. These conditions include being the third Supermoon in a season with four, the second New Moon in a month with two or during a month with no New or Full Moon, UniverseToday.com notes.
Those looking to catch a sight of the Black Moon occurring on Feb. 18 will be disappointed. The lunar event can’t actually been seen as the sun’s rays will cause a galre during the daylight hours that make in unable to be seen, reports Weather.com.
