Amazon Says Drone FAA Approved for Tests Is Already Obsolete

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) said that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved a drone that is already out of date.

amazon-drone-faa-amznThe online retailer claims that the FAA took so long to approve its drone testing that the drone in question is no longer in use. The company has filed a new request with the organization so that it can test it up-to-date drones, reports USA Today.

The FAA has also announced that its making the application process for companies looking to use drones easier. It hopes that this will lead to more applications being approved faster. Amazon is likely hoping to be one of the quickly approved applicants, USA Today notes.

“Although the United States is catching up in permitting current commercial UAS testing, the United States remains behind in planning for future commercial UAS operations,” Paul Misener, Amazon’s vice president of global public policy, told Forbes.
