McDonald’s (MCD) is changing the recipe of its grilled chicken to make it simpler and cleaner.

McDonald'sThe burger chain is removing sodium phosphates and maltodextrin from its grilled chicken recipe. These ingredients helped keep the chicken moist and increased browning respectively.

The new recipe will use vegetable starch and the chicken will be cooked with a mix of olive oil, canola oil and herb seasoning. The product used to be cooked with liquid margarine, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate.

The changes will remove the artificiality from the chicken and add “more of a lemon herb type flavor,” according to McDonald’s director of culinary innovation Jessica Foust.

MCD stock is up 0.47% Monday.
