Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is planning to drop several Viacom, Inc. (NASDAQ:VIA,NASDAQ:VIAB) reality TV shows.

amazon-prime-instant-video-reality-tv-amznAccording to sources with insider information, Amazon Prime Instant Video will stop carrying Teen Mom, Mob Wives and several other reality TV shows. These sources claim that the company will instead focus on making more original content and signing other shows to its service, reports Bloomberg.

The decision to drop several reality TV shows from Viacom comes after Amazon declined to renew a deal with A&E Television Networks, LLC, which provided the service with Storage Wars and Pawn Stars. The lack of interest in reality shows extends beyond Prime viewers and has some networks working to create more scripted content, Bloomberg notes.

Further adding fuel to the flames that reality TV shows aren’t as popular as they once were is the cancellation of American Idol. The TV show just finished its 14th season, with Nick Fradiani as the winner, and will air its last season in 2016.
