A collection of environmental groups claim that Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey is violating state laws with its solar farm plans. They claim that the destruction of 19,000 tress for the solar farm defeats the purpose of the farm and that it could hurt the area’s watershed. They argue that using its parking lot and buildings for the solar farm would be a better option, reports CBS News.

Six Flags claims that its solar farm would be 24 times more efficient at reducing carbon emission than what the forest in that area is capable of. The amusement park company has also promised to replant almost 26,000 trees as part of its plans. The proposed solar farm would take up 90 acres, CBS News notes.

“You don’t kill the earth to save the earth. If a Jackson resident takes down a tree in their own backyard, they have to jump through hoops as the tree removal ordinance is so stringent,” Janet Tauro, board chair for New Jersey Clean Water Action, told Asbury Park Press. “But Great Adventure plans to clear cut 18,000 trees and the application flies through like greased lightning.”
