Here are your Apple Rumors for today:

apple-rumors-r&d-spending-aaplApp: Apple (AAPL) is no longer allowing beta users to review apps in the App Store, reports MacRumors. This means that users that are running pre-release versions of iOS 9 are unable to rate apps. The change was made so that app developers wouldn’t have their software negatively review by people that are using betas. Problems that appear in apps that are being run on pre-release versions of iOS are completely out of the developers’ control and the negative views were unfairly harming their apps.

Sales: Apple has seen sales of devices running iOS beat sales of Microsoft’s (MSFT) Windows for the first time, 9to5Mac notes. The tech company revealed in its Q3 earnings report that it sold 47 million iPhones and 10.9 million iPads. This comes to a total of 57.9 million iOS devices being sold. This puts them just above Windows PC sales. The ability of iOS to match and beat Windows is the result of more people buying the devices and less people buying Windows. Google’s (GOOG,GOOGL) Android started to pass Windows in sales back in 2012.

R&D: Apple’s R&D division has spent more than $2 billion during its third quarter, reports AppleInsider. This marks the first time that R&D spending by the company has surpassed the $2-billion mark. It’s likely that some of the spending from the R&D division is going toward the company’s new efforts to refresh its iPhone and iPad lines later this year. However, the large increase in spending for the quarter could also be related to the company’s rumored car efforts. Spending on R&D during the third quarter of 2014 was $1.6 billion.
