Hurricane Danny is on the horizon, marking the first Atlantic hurricane of the year.

- The storm is compact and it has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane on Thursday morning.
- Although Danny is approaching, it is still more than 1,000 miles east of the eastern Caribbean islands.
- The future of the hurricane is unknown but it looks like it could reach the Leeward Islands such as Guadeloupe and St. Kitts and Nevis as a Category 1 hurricane by Monday.
- Danny’s winds are only 10 miles from center with its maximum sustained winds at 75 mph.
- It is no surprise that this year has produced a low number of hurricanes considering the strong influence of El Niño, which has strong wind shears in the Atlantic that hinder cyclone development.
