The new robotic dog being tested by the US Marines is named “Spot.” Spot is a four-legged robot that can navigate a variety of terrains and can keep its balance when shoved or kicked. The robotic dog was tested in combat situations with real soldiers and handled many of the tasks that a real dog would, reports Fox News.

The tests held by the US Marines for Spot went well. The robotic dog surpassed expectations set for it and was well received by soldiers. Spot can be operated from up to 500 feet away. The soldier in control of Spot uses a game controller to guide it, Fox News notes.

Spot is equipped with laser imaging sensors that can detect threats ahead of it. This ability allows it to scout ahead of soldiers to see if an area is safe. This could be a great boon to the US Marines in future operations, reports Scout.
