According to Facebook’s Melanie Ensign, a member of its security communications team, the phrase was being blocked as part of a glitch with the company’s spam filter. The phrase was accidentally added to the company’s spam filter, but the problem has now been fixed, reports Tech Times.

The Facebook glitch that wasn’t letting users type “everyone will know” extended beyond just public posts. Users also could’t use the phrase when commenting on a post and it was also blocked from use in private messages. The glitch was noticed enough that a Reddit thread concerning it was made by users, Tech Times notes.

The Washington Post claims that the phrase “everyone will know” may have become spam on Facebook after it was posted to Reddit. The publication theorizes that the company’s spam filter may search for words and phrases that see a huge increase in use over a short time and that the Reddit posts had enough people testing the phrase that it got caught by the spam filter.
