Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) is changing its real name policy.

FacebookThe social media site has received criticism over the last year due to the fact that it requires users to use their real names as some users choose to have different names for reasons of identity or their safety.

Support channel are being included for LGBTQ issues, non-Western names and instances of stalking or abuse. The system will be rolled out in the US immediately, and eventually expanded internationally.

The new system will filter out false reports of fake names on Facebook and focus on people who are trying to be deceptive.

“We recognize that it’s also important that this policy works for everyone,” the company wrote in a post, “especially for communities who are marginalized or face discrimination.”

In order to ensure this, Facebook is asking for more information when reporting someone using a false name.

FB stock is down 0.1% Tuesday.
