Minecraft developer Mojang has announced that Microsoft (MSFT) is releasing a new version of its game for schools.
This new version of Minecraft is being called Minecraft: Education Edition. Microsoft is releasing a free trail of the new game that will be available over the summer. It includes changes from the vanilla game to give it a better focus on learning.
Microsoft’s
Minecraft: Education Edition will host lesson plans and different activities that are created by educators. There will also be a forum on education.minecraft.net for teachers to discuss their different plans and projects for the game.
“In education, we are constantly seeking pathways to explore learning beyond the confines of a textbook. Minecraft allows us that opportunity,” Rafranz Davis, Executive Director of Professional Development and Learning at Lufkin ISD, said in a statement. “When we see our kids enjoying the process of learning in this way, it’s a game changer.”
