A 2014 model of the California company’s flagship electric vehicle lit up as it was charging at a supercharger station. No one was in the car when it caught fire, and the fire occurred after the owner of the car set it up for charging and left.

The police are investigating the incident and what caused it, which has yet to be determined. Water can’t put out electric vehicles as water reacts with the lithium and can exacerbate the situation.

A special foam had to be used by the fire department in Norway to contain and extinguish the fire. Tesla responded to the incident by saying it will do extensive research to figure out what caused the blaze.

The company added that it is not unsafe to use Tesla quick-charging stations anywhere on the globe. Model S fires in the past have been related to the chassis and the battery back being punctured.

Past incidents have prompted Tesla to reintroduce every Model S vehicle with a titanium underbody shield and a firmware update that raises the car slightly when it travels at higher speeds.

TSLA stock is down 6.92% Monday.
