Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is making more than 1 million unused Xbox gamertags available to its gamers.
The company announced that Gold subscribers who have been with the company for a year or longer will have the option of switching to one of these names later this week.
Gamertags are used to identify users and keep track of their progress and statistics. Microsoft announced that these names are from the original Xbox, which were never transferred to Xbox 360.
Gamers have been asking the company to make these gamertags available to its users for a while now. It is unclear what specific tags will be available, but they include proper names, foods and locations.
MSFT stock is down 1.9% Tuesday.
