Oprah Winfrey has announced The Underground Railroad as the latest pick for her Oprah’s Book Club reading list.
Winfrey announced the addition of The Underground Railroad to her reading list for Oprah’s Book Club in a video on her website. She said the novel kept her up at night and that it was “a great book!”
Colson Whitehead is the author of The Underground Railroad and Winfrey also posted an interview with him on her website. The two talk about the book and Whitehead’s inspiration for it. A unique aspect of the work is that the Underground Railroad is an actual train system with passengers, conductors and more.
“A lot of people, when they first hear about the Underground Railroad, think it really is a subway or a locomotive. When they find out it’s not, they feel a little disappointed,” Whitehead said in his interview with Winfrey. “So I thought, What if it was a literal underground train network traveling from state to state, with each state it goes through representing a different opportunity or danger?”
The Underground Railroad is currently available on Amazon.com, Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) online store. Customers can buy it for $27.00 in paperback, $18.36 in hardcover and as an ebook for $13.99 through Kindle.
There currently aren’t any customers reviews for The Underground Railroad on Amazon due to it just being released today. However, the page does list it as the newest addition to the Oprah’s Book Club reading list.
