Arnold Palmer, the golfing legend, is dead at the age of 87.

Palmer died on Sunday in Pittsburgh. His death was confirmed by Alastair Johnson, the CEO of Arnold Palmer Enterprises, later that day. According to Johnson, Palmer died due to complications from heart problems. He was admitted to a hospital on Thursday.

  • He was born in 1929 to Deacon and Doris Palmer.
  • His father gave him his first set of golf clubs and taught him how to play the game.
  • He went pro on Nov. 18, 1954 at the age of 25 after winning the the 1954 U.S. Amateur Championship.
  • Palmer won 62 titles on the PGA tour.
  • He won four Masters during this time.
  • Palmer won his last tile at the 1973 Bob Hope Desert Classic.
  • The golfing legend was added to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
  • He played golf with four presidents: Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, George H. W. Bush and his son George W. Bush.
  • President George W. Bush awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004.
  • He also received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2012.
