Activision Blizzard, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATVI) will be renaming its Battle.net service.

Blizzard, ATVI, Battle.netBlizzard announced that it will be changing the name of its Battle.net service via a post on its website. This post said that Battle.net will still continue to be the “central nervous system for Blizzard games.”

Blizzard said that the decision was made to better align its services. It noted that back when it launched the service, it wanted to give it a distinct name to help it stand out. This was done due to the idea of a service connecting a game being a new concept. However, many games offer these types of services and don’t stick out as much as they used to.

Blizzard has already started releasing new services that simply use its name. This includes its streaming service and voice chat service, which now carry the Blizzard name. The Battle.net service will also be following this trend.

The name change may seem a bit strange to long-time Blizzard fans, bus some are receptive to it. Here’s what users were saying in the comments section of the Battle.net service name change announcement.

  • “I’m never going to stop calling it battlenet”
  • “I wasn’t confused, now I am.”
  • “You should probably go ahead and fire your marketing director or whoever told you it was a good idea to change the name of a major identity in your brand for the last 20 years.”
  • “The rebrand will not change our lives, but it does seem really unnecessary.”
  • “The name change doesn’t really impact me either way.”
