Macy’s Inc (NYSE:M) is still planning to open on Thanksgiving Day as other retailers stay closed the day before Black Friday.

Black Friday, Macy's, ThanksgivingAccording to BestBlackFridayDeals.com, it has received confirmation from five malls in the United States with hours for Macy’s operations on Thanksgiving. Officials from each of these five malls confirmed that the retailer will be open on the holiday.

Macy’s is planning to open its doors to customers on Thanksgiving day starting at 5:00 p.m. This is actually a full hour earlier than when it started letting customers into its stores last year, which is a bit of a surprise considering the backlash stores are facing for opening earlier into the holiday.

There has been no official confirmation from Macy’s on its operating hours for Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday. However, the five malls where stores will start opening at 5:00 p.m. aren’t connected, which means all of them having the same hours is likely part of the company’s plans. It’s possible that all of the retailer’s locations will be opening at this time.

Other large retailers will also likely remain open on Thanksgiving to draw customers in with early access to Black Friday deals. Many opened at 6:00 p.m. last year and will likely still do so this year. However, it is possible that some will push up an hour to better compete with Macy’s.

Several retailers are fighting against the push to open earlier by not opening their stores at all on Thanksgiving Day. This includes retailers such as Cabelas Inc (NYSE:CAB), Lowe’s Companies, Inc. (NYSE:LOW), Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.’s (NYSE:WMT) Sam’s Club and more. Hhgregg, Inc.(NYSE:HGG) is another retailer that announced it plans to stay closed on Thanksgiving.
