Hedge funds are formed when many investors or institutions collectively invest in select stocks chosen by the fund’s manager. Many funds operate as LLCs or partnerships to reduce liability and are often overseas to avoid taxes. Hedge funds may gain infamy from scandals like Bernie Madoff, but the funds also provide investors with valuable insight into which stocks institutions are investing in.
