Nike Keeps Running as Real America Index Hoofs Higher

Oregon-based Nike (NYSE: NKE) is sprinting to a stunning 10% increase today as the company beat earnings estimates by 8 cents, on a 14% revenue climb. With futures orders up 15%, investors are realizing that Nike earnings have further room to run.

Nike is the best-performing stock on the InvestorPlace.com Real America Index today. Other top performers include:

Nevada’s Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ: WYNN) hit the jackpot, up 3.8%, as Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) analysts returned from a three-day Vegas “research trip” and reported strong traffic in both gaming and nongaming traffic. The casinos appear to be able to offset wobbly occupancy with pricing power.

Montana’s Stillwater Mining (NYSE: SWC), ever the popular stock on days when precious metals are rising, is up 2.8% today. Platinum and palladium, to which the company’s fortunes are tied, are up almost 1% each.

The Real America Index is showing broad strength so far today, but there are some losers in the mix:

Michigan’s Ford Motor (NYSE: F) is down 1% on a report that automaker ad spending growth is slowing. That may foretell a slowdown in auto sales.

New York’s Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) is off 1.1%.  There’s no news, so this likely is part of the ongoing technical battle the stock is having as it wrestles with its two-year low.

Virginia’s Altria (NYSE: MO) is being smoked for a 1,5% loss today as the Supreme Court chose not to hear a appeal regarding a 2009 settlement requiring tobacco companies to pay for an anti-smoking program in Louisiana. Poor Altria suffered a 2-cent hit to its earnings. It’ll only take another 100 settlements like that to reduce earnings to zero.

Looking at the broad perspective, the Real America Index is up almost 1%, matching equivalent strength across the other three major indexes.About the Real America Index
