Chevron Corporation (CVX) Signs Cloud Deal With Microsoft

Chevron Corporation has announced a seven-year deal with Microsoft Corporation to enhance its business with the tech company’s Azure platform. This will allow the company to easily send information between its different divisions and automate some of its services.

The deal with Microsoft Corporation is part of Chevron Corporation’s effort to streamline its business. It hopes to do this by upgrading its information technology offerings to “drive performance and improve efficiencies.”

“The volumes and velocity of real time data we obtain from the reservoir through refineries to the retail pump grows at a dramatic pace every year,” Bill Braun, Chief Information Officer at Chevron Corporation, said in a statement. “Our Microsoft relationship will advance our high-performance computing, IoT, and help capitalize on innovation in data science and machine learning.”

Microsoft Corporation notes that it will also see some advantages from its relationship with Chevron Corporation. It hopes to use data collected from this agreement to see what other types of products it can develop, as well as how else it can help CVX with its Azure cloud platform.

Neither Chevron Corporation or Microsoft Corporation have revealed the financial details of the recent deal. However, similar deals show that it could be in the hundreds of million, or even up to billions of dollars, reports Forbes.

CVX stock was up 1% and MSFT stock was down slightly as of Monday afternoon.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
