Here’s what you should know:

Harley-Davidson Inc (HOG)

Harley-Davidson announced that it will still be closing its Kansas City headquarters despite pleas from Missouri delegates.

The motorcycle manufacturer had announced that it would be shuttering its plant in the Missouri city, resulting in the elimination of about 800 jobs in the location. However, the U.S. senate implored the company to reconsider.

Missouri congressional leaders begged Harley-Davidson to keep the plant open, reminding the company’s executives of the millions of dollars in incentives the state gets thanks to the plant.

Missouri’s two U.S. senators and to congressmen wrote a letter to Harley-Davidson CEO Matt Levatich Friday, noting how Kansas City was chosen over 30 other cities as the company’s assembly plant back in 1996.

“Ultimately, this initiative is about reducing excess (plant) capacity,” said Harley-Davidson spokesman Michael Pflughoeft. “Our Kansas City workforce has done a tremendous job producing quality motorcycles and serving our customers. And we have always appreciated the support of our Kansas City community.”

J M Smucker Co (SJM)

J.M. Smucker is in hot water with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration over what was found in its dog food.

Several dog food brands owned by the company were recalled by the agency as small traces of a euthanasia drug were found inside the packaging. The company issued a similar recall last year over traces of a euthanasia drug as well.

The new recall affects a number of popular brands such as Skippy, Gravy Train and Kibbles ‘N Bit. However, the FDA says that there’s only a very small chance that a dog would get sick eating these goods. Nevertheless, any traces of the drug is unacceptable according to the agency’s laws.

“The FDA’s preliminary evaluation of the testing results of Gravy Train samples indicates that the low level of pentobarbital present in the withdrawn products is unlikely to pose a health risk to pets,” the FDA said in a statement.

Yum! Brands, Inc. (YUM)

KFC — owned by Yum! Brands — had to shutter most of its stores in the UK over the weekend.

The restaurant chain admitted that it had to temporarily close most of its 900 restaurants in Great Britain due to a logistics issue that slowed down chicken deliveries for a few days.

These restaurants were still closed by Monday, with some of them opening once again in the afternoon. KFC said that the logistics problem was caused by a “couple of teething problems” with DHL, its new delivery partner.

“We won’t compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu, or shortened hours,” KFC said in a statement.

YUM stock is down more than 4.1% YTD.

As of this writing, Karl Utermohlen did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
