Here are a few things to know about the new Starbucks location.

  • The new Starbucks is situated in Milan.
  • The company’s first store in Italy is inside what used to be a post office.
  • This has it near the center of the city and only a few block away from locations such as Duomo di MilanoGalleria Vittorio Emanuele II and Teatro alla Scala.
  • This also isn’t a normal Starbucks location, but is actually one of its new Roastery stores.
  • These are high-end locations that the chain operates in large cities.
  • Currently, there are only three Roastery locations in the the world, including this new one in Italy.
  • The other two are located in the company’s home town of Seattle, Wash., as well as Shanghai.
  • This grand opening bring Starbucks back to its beginnings with it finally opening a store in the city that inspired founder Howard Schultz.
  • Schultz first visited Milan back in 2983 and was caught up in the espresso culture of the city.
  • He sought to bring this type of feeling back with him to America.
  • To do this, he transformed his four Starbucks stores, which only sold coffee grounds for home use, into the coffee chain that it is today.
  • As such, the new store in Milan was designed to celebrate Italian coffee culture.
  • The Roastery in Milan achieves this by offering customers locally roasted coffee that comes from 30 different countries.
