One J C Penney Company Inc (NYSE:JCP) executive accidentally leaked some of the retailer’s sales info.
JCPenney didn’t say who the executive was the leaked the information, but it did say that they were a senior official. This executive accidentally sent some of the company’s sales data to a securities analyst. This gave investors a preview of earnings for the first quarter, which won’t be posted until May, reports USA Today.
In order to avoid a possible selective-disclosure violation, JCPenney released its sales data in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday. In the filing, the company said that same store sales were up 6% and that its financial guidance was at 3.1%, USA Today notes.
Analysts are expecting JCPenney to report losses per share of 76 cents. This would be better than the $1.16 loss reported during the same time last year, reports Investor’s Business Daily.
JCP shares were down 2% as of Tuesday afternoon.
