Google (GOOG,GOOGL) is no longer allowing some Chrome users to use “OK Google” voice commands.
The OK Google voice command was removed with the release of Chrome 46. The feature now can’t be used on Microsoft’s (MSFT
) Windows, Apple’s (AAPL) Macs and Linux. However, the feature still works on mobile version of Chrome and can be used with a Chromebook, reports VentureBeat.
OK Google started out as an extension for the web browser and was added as a default feature with Chrome 35, which was released in May of last year. The feature was removed because it wasn’t seeing much use. Users that still want to use voice search can click the microphone icon in Google’s search bar to do so, VentureBeat notes.
With the removal of OK Google from Chrome, the few fans that the feature had may be looking for ways to bring it back. Unfortunately, the extension that first brought the feature to Chrome is no longer available in the Chrome Web Store.
