Emma Thompson, who played P.L. Travers in Disney’s (DIS) Saving Mr. Banks, is getting flak over her comments about working moms.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Emma Thompson said that she took a year off from work to be a mother to her 14-year-old daughter. She advised other mothers to do the same if they could afford it. However, this isn’t what upset people.
During her Daily Mail interview, Emma Thompson took a shot at working mothers when she said “You can’t be a great mum and keep working all the time.”
Not everyone took kindly to Emma Thompson’s thoughts on working mothers and they went to Twitter (TWTR) to let it be known.
- “How lovely, Emma Thompson, that you had the luxury of being able to take a year off work. Most mothers don’t.”
- “Working moms pay the bills and run their own damn home.”
- “Another famous, wealthy woman gives unsolicited advice to normal mothers.”
