Virtual Reality Technology: PS4 Morpheus Headset to Debut in 2016

Sony (SNE) showcased the latest in virtual reality technology at a gaming conference.

The Project Morpheus headset for PlayStation 4 was shown at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Sony only showcased the prototype as the complete version won’t be out until the first half of 2016.

The PS4 gadget has a 5.7-inch OLED display screen that offers a 120-frames-per-second resolution. Sony CEO Shuhei Yoshida. “What we are showing is a handmade prototype,” Sony CEO Shuhei Yoshida said.

“The guts are almost done.” Developers will be offered the prototype so they can start making games in April.

Sony also previewed three Morpheus demos, including a first-person shooter–London Heist.

SNE stock is 0.1% Wednesday afternoon.
