The Add a Link feature is currently being tested by select mobile users. It allows them to search a subject and get a series of links that they may want to include in their status. This removes Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG,NASDAQ:GOOGL) from the equation and could lead to easier link posting on the mobile app, reports TechCrunch.

Facebook’s Add a Link could add a powerful search engine to the mobile app. The social media company said that it indexed more than one trillion posts to search for links. The links that are shown to users are ones that have lots of views and shares. Users can also choose to preview the content in the link before sharing it, TechCrunch notes.

“If you look at Facebook’s progress over the last few years, the real growth has been in its mobile advertising revenue,” Jack Kent, the senior mobile analyst at IHS, told CNBC. “That means that Facebook’s mobile advertising growth will put pressure on Google. And anything which keeps people inside Facebook with an experience that means that you don’t need Google would put pressure on Google.”
