Amazon Prime Day is a day-long event that the company is holding to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The online retailer has compared the event to Black Friday, but says it will offer even more deals than the after-Thanksgiving shopping spree.

Here are a few things to know about Amazon Prime Day.

  • Users must be Prime members to participate in the event.
  • The day will include deals in U.S., U.K., Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada and Austria.
  • A photo contest is being held from July 6 to July 15 for the event that includes a $10,000 Amazon Gift Card for each country where Prime is available.
  • Amazon users can sign up for a free 30-day trial of Prime to take part in the shopping event.
  • Discounts will start at midnight and new deals will be announced every 10 minutes.
