The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning parents against using homeopathic teething tablets and gels.
According to the FDA, homeopathic tablets and gels may pose a risk to infants and children. The government agency said that there have been reports of adverse effects of children after using the products.
The adverse effects that may affect infants and children using homeopathic tablets and gels include the following:
- Seizures
- Difficulty Breathing
- Lethargy
- Excessive Sleepiness
- Muscle Weakness
- Skin Llushing
- Constipation
- Difficulty Urinating
- Agitation
The FDA is currently investigating the products to learn more about their effects on infants and children. It plans to release more information after it these investigations are completed. Until then, the organization is recommending that parents stop using homeopathic tablets and gels and throw them away.
CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) and Hyland’s are among the distributors of homeopathic tablets and gels. The products are sold at several retail locations and can be found online. The products haven’t received FDA approval or evaluation for safety or efficacy.
Following the FDA’s announcement that parents should stop using homeopathic tablets and gels on their infants and children, CVS announced a recall of its homeopathic products.

- CVS Homeopathic Infants’ Teething Liquid, .85 oz
- Hyland’s Baby Nighttime Teething Tablets, 135 Count
- Hyland’s Baby Teething Gel, .5 oz
- Hyland’s Baby Teething Tablets, 13 Count
- Hyland’s Baby Teething Tablets, 135 Count
- Hyland’s Teething Gel, .33 oz
