The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released its 2017 top safety picks.
The selection includes 2017 model year that have the highest standards of safety. The organization has become stricter than ever this year, ensuring that only the cream of the crop make the list.
Only 38 vehicles made the top safety picks selection for 2017, which is less than half of the 79 models revealed in 2016. IIHS examines about 200 models that it considers for the selection.
“We’ve raised the bar,” IIHS President Adrian Lund said in an interview. “Automakers have not focused enough attention on whether or not headlamps are aimed such that they light up the road for the driver ahead of them.”
He added that there are vehicles that look great and even have fancy maneuvers that appear to offer it more safety, but in reality fail to meet the expectations promised by their flashy features.
