The new Literata will act as the new default font for all books purchased and read via Google Play Books. The creation of the font was a team effort between GOOG and TypeTogether that started in April 2014. The new font was inspired by Scotch and Roman fonts, reports The Next Web.

GOOG’s Literata supports over 1,100 characters per font. It also supports PanEuropean language. The company hopes that this new font will help it stand out from other e-readers, such as Barnes & Noble, Inc.’s (NYSE:BKS) Nook and Amazon.com, Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Kindle, The Next Web notes.

Literata will likely remain exclusive to Google Play Books. The Droid family of font, which was the previous default of the GOOG’s e-book’s, will remain the default font for Android apps. Android Authority has a link to download Literata for PC use on its website.
