A Facebook (FB) scam has been showing up in Facebook News Feeds and its illegal.

The new scam making its way through Facebook News Feeds is called the “Secret Sisters Gift Exchange.” This scam claims that users can send one $10 gift and receive 36 gifts in return. The post is a form of a pyramid scam that only lets users get a return in their investment for inviting more users to the exchange, reports Mashable.
The Secret Sisters Gift Exchange traveling through Facebook News Feeds is similar to the old chain letters that used to be sent through the mail. These were also illegal for the same reasons. However, the social media website allows the scam to travel faster than what it could as mailed letters, Mashable notes.
“Most people look at it like it’s just $10, and it’s kind of exciting and different or whatever,” Cynthia Augello, a cyber security laywer for Cullen and Dykman, told New York Daily News. “I think that’s what most people are thinking — and thinking is a loose term here.”
