Seasonal Jobs 2017: JC Penney Hiring 40,000 for the Holidays

JC Penney says that it will be holding a job fair on Oct. 17 to fill the open position for seasonal jobs. It is looking to hire additional cashiers and stockers to help it manage the holiday shopping season.

On top of hiring additional cashiers and stockers, JC Penney also needs more beauty consultants for the Sephora makeup shops that are inside its stores. The company has roughly 875 locations across the U.S. that will be hiring to fill seasonal jobs.

JC Penney’s plans for seasonal jobs in 2017 show that it isn’t likely expecting more business in 2017 than what it saw in the year prior. This is due to decision to hire 40,000 workers for the holidays, which is the same amount that it hired for the 2016 shopping season, reports Associated Press.

JC Penney isn’t the only retailer that is adding more seasonal jobs to deal with the holidays in 2017. Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) recently announced that it will be bringing in 100,000 more seasonal workers in 2017. This is an increase over the 70,000 it brought in for 2016.

Macy’s Inc (NYSE:M)  is also planning to bring in additional employees to cover the 2017 holiday season. However, it will only add 80,000 seasonal jobs this year, which is down from the 83,000 in 2016.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT) is actually planning to skip the seasonal jobs hiring in 2017. The company instead says that it will be giving more hours to its regular workers for the holidays. This is the same thing that it did last year.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
