Just days after losing a jury verdict to electronics rival and major chip customer Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Samsung has unveiled a brand new camera that can respond to voice commands at the IFA technology show in Berlin.

The 16-megapixel Galaxy Camera uses Google‘s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android 4.1 Jellybean operating system — Samsung’s smartphones also use Android — and combines the optical performance of a standalone camera with the functionality of a smartphone, CNET notes.

Voice commands allow users to manipulate the zoom feature, snap an image, or set the timer feature — handy if you want to set up the camera to take an image of yourself from a distance.

With a 4.8-inch touchscreen for its back, the camera doesn’t require many buttons. Android Apps organize and manage photos stored in the camera’s memory. Separate folders can be created to store images.

The camera also boasts wireless connectivity, able to transmit photos across Wi-Fi and 3G/4G connections, allowing users to easily upload photos to social networking websites like Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter.

Samsung has not yet disclosed the pricing for the Galaxy Camera, nor is there any word when it will hit store shelves.

Still, the announcement of the camera — as well as Samsung’s updated smartphone/tablet hybrid, the Galaxy Note II, which arrives in October — comes just weeks before Apple unveils its next generation iPhone, which is is being timed for the holiday shopping season.
