Voice Fight: Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) is giving Siri, Apple‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL) voice assistant, a little competition on iOS devices, MacRumors notes. The Internet search giant released an update for its iOS search app on Tuesday that adds a voice search feature that works remarkably like Apple’s much-touted Siri. Google’s voice search can interpret and answer certain limited questions, providing responses in its own voice to some questions and locating relevant websites in others. But where Siri only works with the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, as well as the latest generation iPads, Google’s voice search works with older iOS devices, including the iPhone 4. Apple dumped Google’s maps app from iOS earlier this year, replacing it with its own in-house developed Maps app, which produced a deluge of user complaints over errors and glitches.

Update Postponed: Apple has announced that it will delay the release of an upgrade for its popular iTunes software, the New York Times noted. Apple said the upgrade wasn’t ready for release and it required additional work to “get it right.” The company received a barrage of complaints last month after it released an in-house developed maps app that many critics said wasn’t ready for consumers. The iTunes delay comes after Apple ousted two top executives, each responsible for an area in which the company has stumbled in recent months. The iTunes upgrade is expected to feature an enhanced interface and better iCloud integration. Apple indicated that the update will be released in November.

China Launch: Apple has obtained approval for two models of its iPhone 5 from the China State Radio Management agency, which regulates mobile devices, AppleInsider notes. The approved models, bearing the product numbers A1429 and A1442, are being readied for the iPhone 5’s much-anticipated debut in China. The A1429 model can operate on the mobile networks of China Mobile (NYSE:CHL) and China Unicom (NYSE:CHU), while the A1442 is compatible with China Telecom‘s (NYSE:CHA) system. While Apple has not announced an official agreement with China Mobile, it is widely rumored to be in talks with the company. Analysts say that adding China Mobile to its Chinese telecom partners could double Apple’s iPhone 5 sales in China. No date has yet been announced for the iPhone 5’s Chinese launch.
