New FAA Rules Complicate Delivery by Amazon Drones

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) drone delivery may have been dealt it’s final blow by the the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

faa-amazon-drones-amznThe FAA proposed new rules over the weekend for drone operation. According to these rules, drones wouldn’t be allowed to fly over anyone not involved in their control and someone must always be on the ground with vision of the drone to operate it, reports USA Today.

These new rules would kill the Amazon drone delivery plans that the company had as they wouldn’t really allow for unmanned drones. While the new rules wouldn’t allow for drone delviery in America, the company still plans to use drones for delivery in countries and regions where it’s allowed, USA Today notes.

“We want to maintain today’s outstanding level of aviation safety without placing an undue regulatory burden on an emerging industry,” Michael Huerta, Administrator for the FAA, told Time.

AMZN shares were down 1% as of Tuesday afternoon.
