Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has bought startup ClusterK, which deals in cloud-related matters, for $20 million to $25 million.

amazon-clusterk-amznClusterK is a software developer that helps users find extra cloud capacity to buy from Amazon Web Services. These instances are known as Amazon EC2 and can be purchased to run non-critical apps. However, ClusterK promises the ability to run critical apps while still using EC2, reports PCWorld.

It’s likely that Amazon bought ClusterK so that it could bring cheaper cloud prices directly to its users. The company has confirmed that it purchased the startup, but it hasn’t said anything more about the deal, PCWorld notes.

Here’s the official synopsis of ClusterK from the startup’s website:

“ClusterK offers software that enables high availability in the AWS Spot Market, to accelerate and save up to 90% for mission-critical applications. By seamlessly integrating price prediction, multiple markets and offensively rebalancing your application, ClusterK optimizes your infrastructure for performance, availability and the lowest cost. Let your engineers focus on what’s next.”
