There are currently two studies that are hoping to benefit from DNA submitted by Apple fans. One is a study related to premature birth. Researchers will be collecting the DNA and the two studies are being powered by the tech company’s ResearchKit, which currently has apps for asthma, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and Parkinson’s disease studies, reports Business Insider.

If Apple’s push for users to submit their DNA for studies works, it could give researchers a huge amount of data to work with. The tools provided in ResearchKit could also give them an easy way to keep in contact with members of studies. There is hope that offering medical information for research could become as simple as a quick confirmation via an iPhone, Business Insider notes.

If Apple’s plans do take off and the DNA-based studies become a reality, participants will have to submit their own DNA. This means that they’ll choose to sign up and then researchers will send them a spit kit as a way to get a sample of their DNA, reports MIT Technology Review.
