Beware the Facebook Dislike Button Scam

Facebook (FB) is the target of a scam that claims to give users a “dislike” button.

The Facebook dislike button scam shows up as a link on users’ NewsFeeds that claims they’ve been given the chance to try out a new dislike button that the company will reveal in the future. The scam redirects users to a malicious website that collects their personal data and has them share the link on their Wall and in group conversations, reports Neowin‎.

Facebook users that see a link promising to give them access to the Facebook dislike button early are warned against clicking the link. This bit of advice actually applies to all suspicious links shared on the social media website, as there have been many scams on the website in the past.

Users that are fooled by the Facebook dislike button scam can be forgiven for the confusion. The social media company didn’t recently hint that a new button would be added to the site. However, this button is going to be an “empathy” for situations when liking a status may not be appropriate.
