Scientists are currently working on an “exercise pill” that mimics the effects of working out.

Scientists at the University of Sydney and the University of Copenhagen were able to successfully create a blueprint of what the body goes through after a workout. They discovered that there are more than 1,000 molecular changes that occur due to working out. It took three years to track the effects and make a blueprint that they can use to make an exercise pill, reports Quartz.

Scientists know that they can’t create a drug that will mimic all 1,00 effects of working out. However, they are looking to find the effects that matter most and make an exercise pill that can help give to effects to patients. However, the miracle drug won’t likely exists for at least another 10 years, Quartz notes.

“We expect that as we gain an improved understanding of the molecular mechanism by which exercise induces beneficial effects, we will likely gain increased confidence in creating exercise pills that have minimal side effects with much-improved efficacy,” Ismail Laher and Shunchang Li, authors of the study to create a blueprint of the effects of exercise, told Medical News Today.

One possible candidate for an exercise pill is a drug created by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) back in 1992. The drug was first created to treat metabolic syndrome, reports Medical News Today.
