A Harvard University mumps outbreak has increased to 40 cases.

Harvard, Mumps Outbreak

The mumps outbreak at Harvard was first noticed on Feb. 29 and it has continued to spread. The virus can infect even those that have been given a vaccination to prevent it and it spreads via saliva and mucus.

It’s possible that the virus was brought to Harvard by a foreign student as the European Union doesn’t require kids to get a mumps vaccination like the United States does. The spread of the virus is still problematic as it goes quickly through colleges due to how much college students share.

Ohio State University suffered from a mumps outbreak in 2014 that ended up infecting 63 students, faculty and others that were near the institution.
