Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) has announced an agreement that will give it streaming rights to MLB and NHL games.

Twitter, MLB, NHL, TWTRThe deal for streaming rights to MLB and NHL games was made with MLB Advanced Media and it went into effect immediately. It will allow the social media service to stream games for free to both users and non-users of its service.

Twitter hasn’t announced when it will stream its first MLB or NHL game, but a schedule for the games will be released at a later date. The NHL is currently in its off season and won’t start back up again until sometime in October. The social media service hopes that these streams will lead it to more interaction from sports fans that use its service to watch the games.

TWTR will benefit from the deal with advertisements. It will split revenue from these ads with MLB Advanced Media. The deal will include one live stream a week for the sporting events. There will also be an exclusive highlights show on the social media service called The Rally that will be made by the over-the-top network 120 Sports, reports Variety.

Twitter also recently signed a deal with the NBA for more original content. This includes a new pre-game show and an additional exclusive show for the social media platform that will start before the 2016-17 season. The company signed another deal earlier this year that gave it the rights to stream Thursday night NFL football games for free through its service, as well.
