Google (GOOG,GOOGL) has released a new tool that helps users decide which Android phone is right for them.

Google Android logoThe new Google tool starts users off by asking them what they use their phone for. There are 12 different categories that can be selected, but only three need to be selected for it to show off potential Android picks to users.

The different uses for smartphones that the tool list include the following:

  • Taking Photos
  • Listening to Music
  • Being Productive
  • Social Media
  • Gaming
  • Watching Videos
  • Being on the Go
  • Staying Fit
  • Texting & Instant Messaging
  • Talking
  • Web Browsing
  • Expressing My Style

When any of these categories are selected, the Google tool will ask users questions about their activities. These mostly include how often the person uses their smartphone for the selected activity. Once users are happy with their selections, they can move on to the next part.

The Google Android tool will also ask users to select a wireless provider from a list including AT&T (T), Sprint (S), T-Mobile (TMUS) and Verizon (VZ). This helps narrow the search. Once complete, a list of phones that include their different specifications and features is shown to the user.

Users can narrow their search even further by choosing filters to apply to the search. These filters include the cost and size of the phone. They can also choose to see a list of the newest phones that match their search criteria.
