Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) users have been hit with a scam that can be avoided if you know what to do.

Amazon.com, Inc.

We are in the midst of the hottest shopping period of the year, which has led to the usual high spending sprees that people go through in late November and December. However, those shopping from e-commerce companies need to keep an eye for a potential scam.

If you are buying holiday gifts on Amazon, beware of a message that says “Your Amazon.com Order Cannot Be Shipped.” If this happens, you will get an email saying that there has been a problem with processing and users will be informed with the fact that they won’t be able to enter their account or place orders.

The scam asks you to offer personal information such as your credit card number in order to ensure that your payment goes through. You will then enter a “click here” link that opens what appears to be a real Amazon web page, asking you to enter your address, name and credit card information.

However, this message has nothing to do with the company as it is a scam looking to swindle you. If you get a message like this from an email that is not @amazon.com, then you are not getting an email from the retailer.

AMZN shares rose slightly Friday, up 0.2% by day’s end.
