Beyond Meat and McDonald’s have been working together to create a McPlant burger. Now, the two companies are seeking customer feedback on the new plant-based burger. This has them bringing the menu item to more stores.
Specifically, McDonald’s is adding the McPlant burger to 600 locations. That includes stores in the San Francisco Bay and Dallas-Fort Worth areas. The launch will take place on Feb. 14 and the chain wants customers to weigh in on the new burgers.
This isn’t the first time that McDonald’s has tested out a Beyond Meat burger. Initial tests kicked off in November. This has the fast-food chain adding the McPlant burger to eight locations. The goal was to determine how adding the burger to the menu would affect its operations, reports CNBC.
While Beyond Meat’s plant burger coming to McDonald’s locations is a win, it’s not quite as large of a launch as we expected. Last month, Piper Sandler analyst Michael Lavery predicted that the burger would be available at all U.S. McDonald’s stores by the end of February. While the timeframe is right, the number of stores adding McPlant is well below the chain’s 14,000 U.S. locations.
We’ve also got to point out that it’s not just McDonald’s testing out Beyond Meat alternatives. Yum Brand’s (NYSE:YUM) KFC recently added plant-based fried chicken to its menu. However, this is only for a limited time as part of a test run.
