Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) has announced that it will be ending support for Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG,NASDAQ:GOOGL) chat services on Outlook.com.

outlook.com-facebook-google-chat-msftMicrosoft announced the change to Outlook.com’s chat supports in an email that was sent out to Outlook users. The message doesn’t say why Facebook chat is being dropped by the service. Google is being dropped because the company doesn’t support  XMPP, an open-source protocol, in its new chat services, reports ZDNet.

It’s possible that Microsoft is removing Facebook from Outlook for the same reason its giving Google the boot. The social media company is planning to stop using XMPP for its chat services, reports PC World.

Outlook.com users that are looking for another way to chat are advised by Microsoft to use Skype. The company said that it’s used by most users already and that it understands some will be disappointed by its decision to drop the two chat services, ZDNet notes.
