Microsoft’s (MSFT) Skype has run into an issue when certain strings of characters are sent.

The Skype text bug affects the Windows, Google (GOOG,GOOGL) and Apple (AAPL) versions of the app. All it takes is message with “http://:” in it for the service to have to shutdown. More trouble comes from the fact that closing the app down and opening it again doesn’t solve the issue, making this glitch the perfect weapon for trolls, reports Cnet.

Skype users that have been affected by the text bug have hope. An update for the service that patches the problem has reportedly been released. The Mac and Windows 8.1 version of Skype don’t need the update as they weren’t affected by the bug, Cnet notes.

Skype isn’t the only messaging service that’s been having trouble with text bugs. Apple also faced an issues where its messaging service on iPhones could be shutdown with a string of unicode. However, the company released instructions to bypass the glitch and is planning an update to fix the problem.
